The RISE UP consortium met in Setomaa

In early October, the UNESCO Chair took the consortium of the project on endangered languages to Setomaa.

In 2023-2026, the UNESCO Chair on Applied Studies of Intangible Cultural Heritage is part of the RISE UP project. It's a research and development project aiming at the safeguarding of endangered languages and cultural diversity, funded by Horizon Europe.

The project focuses on case studies of five endangered languages from across Europe. From Estonia, the focus is on Seto. Therefore the last meeting took us to Setomaa. The researchers were able to observe the meeting of the Seto Congress, the representative body of Setomaa and the Seto people. They also visited local museums, got acquainted with education in Seto language, met traditional singers and with the Seto Institute.
